A marathon effort for survivors

We have three brilliant people running the London Marathon (virtual version) to raise money for Ella’s this year.

Becky, Simba and Jamie have been training hard for this epic 26 mile run on 3 October, and every pound raised will benefit women who’ve survived trafficking and exploitation. Read about our runners here, and please sponsor them if you can.

Becky

Becky (pictured) joined the Ella’s marathon team three months into training. Her friend Alex was originally part of the team but couldn’t continue due to health reasons, so Becky stepped up to take her place.

Becky is an engineer specialising in wind turbines, and likes to run with her rescue lurcher, Flo. ‘It helps me process my thoughts,’ says Becky, who lives in Scotland.

‘The longest race I’ve done so far is a half marathon,’ Becky continues. ‘After that, I said I’d never do a full marathon as it’d be too hard, but here we are...!

‘It feels so good to be running for Ella’s. I love the cause because it supports women. I work in a fairly male-dominated industry, and I feel strongly about opportunity and equality, especially for people who can easily be left out.’

We’re so pleased Becky changed her mind about running a full marathon, and know she’s going to do great on the day. Please encourage Becky by sponsoring Team Ella’s if you can.

Simba

Simba (pictured here in his happy place) works for a law firm some of the time, but is a runner most of the time! The London Marathon is part of Simba’s bigger training plan for a terrifying ultra run later in the year, and a chance to support Ella’s.

‘It’s great to be running for Ella’s,’ says Simba, who lives in Brighton. ‘There are lots of good causes around, but I feel close to Ella’s and am inspired by the impact they have.’

Simba also runs with the fabulous TRIBE, a supporting partner of Ella’s, where he first got to know us. He also helps lead Black Trail Runners, encouraging wider participation and inclusion in outdoor activities like running.

As well as having literally all of the running ideas, Simba has collected quite a lot of gear too! He has more than 30 pairs of running shoes.

Please sponsor our runners today if you can, every sponsor counts!

Jamie

Jamie from Essex joined the Ella’s marathon team just two and a half weeks before race day.

Original team member Dan sadly had to pull out injured, so we needed to find someone willing to take on a marathon at short notice. We didn’t fancy our chances, until fellow Ella’s runner Becky put us in touch with Jamie (pictured here with his dog, Dennis).

‘I actually like the fact that the marathon is a more extreme challenge, given there’s not long to train!’ says Jamie. ‘I like to push myself. I’m probably one of few people who’d say this is a good case marathon scenario.’

Jamie is a keen runner (thankfully), and works as a carpenter and builder as well as an on-call firefighter. He’s fairly new to Ella’s, but is now up to speed.

‘It’s brilliant to be running for Ella’s,’ says Jamie. ‘I think it’s remarkable work. I love the fact that it’s giving people a chance to turn their lives around after going through so much.’

Jamie is going above and beyond to take on the London Marathon for Ella’s at such short notice. Please get behind him and our other runners today!

Every sponsor and message of support will encourage Becky, Simba and Jamie. And every pound will help unlock freedom among survivors of trafficking and exploitation. Thank you for your support.
