Impact Report 2022/2023

Our Impact Report (covering September 2022 to August 2023) is out now. It’s been another great year for Ella’s, and we’re so grateful to everyone who’s supported us to help survivors recover and build safe lives.

Last year saw the opening of our new safe house, Ella’s’ third. We also increased our work with women living in neighbourhoods across London, many of them mums with young children. And we progressed our goal to become more survivor-led.

In total, 56 women and 46 children benefited from our work during this last year, that’s a 34 per cent increase on the year before.

Nia (pictured below left) is one of the women who features in the Impact Report. Nia was trafficked by her then partner and kept as a slave, abused and exploited by his whole family.

‘I will never forget the day I came to Ella’s,’ she says. ‘I arrived at the bus station and Layla [Service Manager at Ella’s] was waiting for me with flowers. I was so happy. I’d been living in danger, and now there was someone welcoming me with flowers! At last, I could sleep without thinking someone would kill me in the night.’

The practical and emotional support at Ella’s as well as the safe place to recover have made a world of difference to Nia, who has recently successfully applied for a job.

‘I have changed, I used to feel weak but now I feel more strong,’ says Nia. ‘I feel like a woman who deserves a good life. When you are at Ella’s, you see life. What life is and can be. I love Ella’s. I will always be thankful. I will tell the story of Ella’s to my children… in 105 years, I will still be talking about Ella’s. I’m happy that I can start to look towards my future.’
